When I first got Internet service in my area I was mostly concerned about online shopping and checking Facebook. Once I started spending hours upon hours online, though, I started becoming interested in graphic design. Here are a few things I noticed about the best websites out there and what you can take away from my “field experiment”
White Space: The best websites aren’t cluttered, they’re easy to read and have one singular statement or focal point. If you’re designing a website for function (and not to convert sales) remember to keep it as clean as possible.
No Flash: Who likes Flash, really? It’s expensive to learn and it only slows down browsersmost people would rather control a slideshow than have to continuously skip sparkly intros. And while you’re at it, ditch the background music, too.
Brand: If you’ve got a logo for your site, and you should, make sure to put it at the top of EVERY page. This will make your content harder to steal and help visitors remember where they are without having to digalways a good thing.
